He subsequently received a B.A. in history from California State University, Sacramento and moved to Reno, Nevada in 1978. Michael now works on the senate staff of the Nevada State Legislature. His first book, A Patch of Ground: Khe Sanh Remembered, released in 2005, is an acclaimed first-person account of the infamous seventy-seven-day siege of Khe Sanh in 1968. He is currently working on his third book about the incredible events that led him to return to Vietnam in 2007 in search of the remains of a friend. Michael resides in Reno with his wife Becky and the youngest of his three children.
